The Role

Reporting to the Legal Counsel, the Commercial Lawyer is responsible for providing leadership within the Legal function and overseeing the full cycle of contracts management across the companies global network. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with expertise in contracts and commercial law, ideally gained in house in the healthcare, med tech or pharmaceutical industry, to join our small but perfectly formed team. This position is based in Cambridge, UK, but we would consider applicants looking to work from Paris, Madrid, Rome or Hamburg.

Responsibilities

• Manage the network of outsourced legal Counsel and practices and agree clear division of roles and responsibilities to facilitate effective and efficient relationships to the full benefit of the company. Reorganise those relationships where considered beneficial to ensure the company retains knowledge in key areas referring to specialist only when required
• Manage the existing contract management process, drafting and executing new agreements, develop a contracts template for widespread company use, ensure the company is not legally compromised in on going and new contractual negotiation and apply local best practice
• Drive and advise on the setting up of new legal entities and associated registration requirements on a global basis
• Support the commercial team in contract negotiations
• Support on any M&A activity, future entity listing or funding rounds as required
• Deputise for the Legal Counsel on legal matters as and when required, providing general corporate advice as well as advice and support to international offices

We’re a high growth company and roles can change and evolve. You’ll need to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Legal remit that supports the team with delivering its objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be:

• A qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience, ideally gained in house
• A corporate or commercial background with significant experience in drafting and negotiating high value contracts globally, and specifically across Europe, ideally with hospitals (public and private) within the Medical Device, Healthcare or Pharmaceutical industry
• Experience of Companies Act requirements and general corporate administration
• Ability to work independently and provide commercial and technically accurate advice under pressure and tight timelines, in a sometimes ambiguous environment
• The ability to quickly build strong and credible working relationships with internal operational and commercial management, non-legal stakeholders along with the external network of advisors
• A demonstrable track record in supporting the execution of a strong legal control environment suitable for a large multi-national business

It would also be helpful if you have:

• Experience of international law and business, specifically across Europe, LATAM, Middle East and Asia
• Dealing with supply chain, distribution and direct contract arrangements would be an advantage
