The Role

Reporting to and working closely with the MD of B2B, the role of Head of UW / Global Director of UW includes the responsibility and accountability:

• Set a clear strategy for how Zego’s commercial fleet business will continue to build our capabilities in innovative underwriting & pricing in order to deliver best in class loss ratios in a technology-fist, fast growth environment
• In conjunction with the commercial leadership, set a clear strategy to increase GWP velocity whilst maintaining sustainable loss ratios
• Manage and lead a team of underwriters, underwriting operations experts and pricing analyst, with a clear focus on continuous development of team mates
• Manage the commercial fleet portfolios in the UK, France and Netherlands, including weekly and monthly analysis, development of pricing and underwriting actions to increase GWP, and initiating remediation action where required
• Acting as a point of referral for risks which exceed the underwriting teams personal underwriting authority
• Leading on creating the simplest and most user friendly insurance products for our customers: delivering dynamic policy documents, removing unfair terms, conditions and exclusions, and sourcing of ancillary or add on covers to support customer choice
• Close collaboration with the core insurance team to set a clear carrier strategy focussing for commercial fleet on carrier optimization and commercial terms beneficial to Zego. Lead and support carrier discussions onboarding from a technical point
• Close collaboration with all other business units, including claims, commercial, product and tech

Who you are: Product/ technical knowledge & mindset:

• You have extensive experience in commercial motor insurance, and you know that it can be done better
• You want to challenge the status quo, and to deliver a service and value proposition to customers that changes their perception of insurance for the better
• You see technology & improved access to driver behaviour data as a key enabler for improving loss ratio management
• You have extensive technical experience in the motor fleet class of insurance, including complex and non-standard insurance programmes
• You have extensive knowledge and experience of developing and executing risk selection and underwriting strategies
• You have extensive knowledge and experience of using pricing models, including working with pricing managers and pricing analysts to iterate pricing models
• You have extensive knowledge and experience of operating in our distribution channels, including the operating models of insurance brokers

• Track record of managing a profitable and growing book of business

• Data driven and quick thinker who can make commercial decisions balanced with smart underwriting
